We have compiled a poker dictionary to help you learn the most comon terms. If you want to sound like a pro or just understand a poker discussion then you must familiarize yourself with the poker terminology.

A

  • Aces up - One hand with two pairs, one of which is AA
  • Aces full - A full house of three aces and two cards of a kind.
  • Ace Rag - A and a small kicker
  • All-in - Wagging of a player with all the chips he has. In case an adversary goes all-in with more chips than you, and you call, than there will be a side pot and a main pot
  • Ace High - A hand with an ace but with no pair, straight nor suit
  • ABC Player - A predictable player. He reads one or two books about poker and then he follows the instructions with strictness. This kind of players are the winners of small bets at loose tables but they are easily defeated by professionals
  • Action - A game is considered full of action when many pots are played, with lots of interventions from the players
  • Active player - Any player which is still in the game at the respective hand
  • Advertise - A player adopts this style of playing for confusing other players
  • Aggressive - A player who raise a lot/often when having good hands

  • American Airlines - Two Aces (AA) (also known as Pocket Rockets or Bullets)
  • Ante - (Mandatory) The amount placed in the pot before the cards are dealt. Ante is used in 7 Stud and in big Hold’em tournaments surpassing a certain level ( the amount is established by the organizers, e.g. for $75/150, ante $25)
  • Add-on - Typically available at the end of the rebuy period in a tournament, an Add-on allows players to pay an addition fee to receive another stack of chips. Add-ons are permitted regardless of how many chips the player has, unlike rebuys which are restricted to when the player has fewer chips than when he started.
